My kids and I loved The Linoleum People! It’s such an original and relatable idea for a children’s book. I loved how well the poetry flowed, since I’ve run into some children’s books written in verse that feel forced or stilted, at different points. And, the illustrations are absolutely gorgeous. There’s so much warmth in the book, and it feels like the kind of classic that you hold onto to keep re-reading, and pass down to the next generation.

Kaela R., and her three adorable children.

A sweet children’s book about curiosity, imagination, and the fun of discovering something unexpected. I loved the way it shows that even ordinary things, like a linoleum floor, can excite the imagination when you take the time to really look. The illustrations are beautiful, and they made me smile all the way through. A cute book to share with kids!

Everyone who has ever imagined animals in the clouds, pictures in the wood grain on a cabinet door, or faces in water stains on the ceiling, will enjoy The Linoleum People. Hidden in the designs on the kitchen floor covering, characters and creatures of all kinds come out for a frolic when the moon is blue. Author Anne Hansen follows the fun in rhyme, as Xiao’s rich illustrations show imagination as vivid as the lines and shapes in the floor. As comical as it is colorful, this book is prime for some lap-sitting good times as it entertains and fosters fantasy and creativity.

Just like viewing clouds in the sky, who has not stared at patterned flooring and seen shapes form and creatures appear? This fanciful book would be best read aloud by an older person to a younger person, taking time to enjoy the beautiful illustrations and explain less familiar phrases.
